The Legend Of Korra Season One and Trailer Review

The season two trailer for The Legend of Korra didn't do anything for me cause personally the only thing I liked about Legend of Korra Season one was the flashbacks that let me see Aang and the original Team Avatar. I didn't like The Legend of Korra because the first three seasons started slow and then sped up as the story unfolded where as Legend instead decided that they were going to take advantage of not having to tell an "orgin story". At first I loved the faster pace of the show until it started to remind me of Power Rangers in the sense of having many mini bosses and every problem of the episode being solved in said episode. The end of the season was really anticlimactic over all Korra felt spoon feed compared to Aang the battle wasn't what i except or wanted. My biggest complain is Mako and Korra's relationship, Korra's motivation for being in the relationship is simple she thinks Mako is hot. On the flip side i don't see Mako's motivation at all I know the feeling didn't come out of the blue because they had a kiss, but one kiss doesn't make a relationship. Asami and Mako made sense right of the bat he didn't see her as his tomboy friend but as a hot chick and she introduced him to a whole new world. And that the end when Korra gets both air bending and the Avatar State WTF?

My Rating: Needed more time in the oven: 4/10

Smallville Review Spoiler

is a great show all in all I loved the show a lot more then I thought I would cause as I said before I hate Superman. I'm going to start off with the bad first there are a lot of episodes that feel like they drag down the story as a whole. The series spans ten seasons and as a whole it works well, but it didn't need twenty episodes per season I feel that it was limiting itself by following the formula of twenty plus episode a season. I think they should have play it more like if one season needed thirty episodes give it thirty and if another needs five it should've had five. Some seasons had thin plots that didn't need a whole season but were given a whole season and that is where the drag is felt the most. On the other hand some of the mid seasons felt like they needed more episodes and you feel it was rushed. Second problem is characters like Kara Zor-El and Oliver Queen, receptively played by Laura Vandervoot and Justin Hartley, both characters felt lackluster with their appearances after they were added to the credits, during season seven Kara wasn't there half the time making her feel like a throw away character. I felt that they went low brow with Kara as a character mainly because the first episode I remember her in she was  trying to become Smallville's beauty queen can feel the girl power in that episode. And they quickly used the gag of Clark seeing his hot cousin in a bikini, when it would of been more intresting to have Brainiac trick her into thinking the Clark killed Kal-EL starting a three episode story arc. Instead of Clark having to deal with the sexy sibling stereotype it might have been funnier to see a motherly/sisterly Kara trying to coop with not being able to be a part of Clark's upbringing so she gets over protective this would've shown more sides to Kara's character other then following Jor-El's ever word like a girl scout or being really hot. And with Oliver it felt like his character was seen more before he was added to the credits which is sad because the chemistry between Tom Welling and Justin Hartley as their receptive character was awesome. Last bad thing about the show is that Kristin Kreuk who plays Lana Lang is in the show for far too long playing the damsel in distress.     

 

The first great thing about this show is the human elements the people around Clark make him seem less like Superman, more like a meta human just discovering his powers. Also the first season is dedicated to show a Clark Kent that doesn't have all his powers at the start he only has super human speed and strength. I like how they not only made kryptonite not only his weakness but made it's radioactive nature giving other people powers and with Smallville somewhat covered in kryptonite Clark Kent isn't the top dog. Back to the human elements with Ma and Pa Kent play by Annette O'Toole and John Schneider they really show how Clark Kent goes from a boy who just wants to get the girl to Superman. From the start they tell Clark his not going to have a normal life and to keep a low profile at school for me they go the extra mile by not only telling him that his amount of power and his whole god-likeness can come and bite him in the ass if he's not careful but they try to help him with anything they can from helping him control is newest power, to regain his power if needed, throwing away kryptonite, and even risking their lives to protecting his secret. What I also like about his parents is that they don't just tell him over and over again but take action when needed.With everything his parents do we see how Clark gains a sense of duty for his fellow man as well as the strength he gets to make some hard choices.

 

Next are Clark's friends Pete Ross played by Sam Jones III and Chloe Sullivan played by Allison Mack they are used to convey how and why Clark is so loyal and also why he keep Clark Kent and Superman two different persona's. Pete Ross is basically what would happen if people found out about Clark, its shown whenever Pete is jealous of Clark best example is when Pete finds out and truly sees Clark for the first time so he's freaked out, he doesn't know what to think, and needed time to himself. Smallville also shows how real people would act by having Pete willing to blow the whistle on Clark's secret and even go as far as to used kryptonite on Clark if it suits his needs. Pete Ross is shown as a human torn between light and dark and how that would play out if they ever found out Clark is Superman. Chloe is the light half of humankind that would not only help out Clark but pretend not to know letting him tell them when his is ready. But Chloe's character doesn't stop there for a while she's Clark's voice of reasons never letting him go too far and always watch his back over time she herself becomes jaded. This changes her thinking to the point of her feeling Clark sometimes doesn't go far enough.

 

The best thing about the series is the character evolution in Clark Kent and Lex Luthor. Michael Rosenbaum gives a mind blowing performance as Lex Luthor, at first we see him starting to obsess over Clark and it seems to come out of nowhere but with Lionel Luthor introduced and his back story unfolding as the series moves along, we see that this obsessive nature was drilled into him since birth by his father and as the show continues his obsession becomes his life. On the on other hand Tom Welling starts off weak feeling more like a supporting character with highs and low throughout the first two seasons but his country boy smile and great chemistry is enough at the beginning. By the beginning of the third season he was Clark for me the acting was much better and it felt like the cast was supporting him instead of the other way around. His Clark Kent was also hard to pull off he had to start off as a kid in high school trying to fit in then as they show continued he had to embrace aspects of the other actresses/actors around him to show that his environment and the people he loves are what's shaping him to become the Man of Steel (not the movie). Really if you think about it this is like The Prince of Egypt two young boy that are like brothers that are driven apart as one (Moses and Clark) is destined for greatness and shaped by his environment and the other (Rameses and Lex) is force down dark a path by an over bearing father figure. 

Lastly Smallville continues as a comic titled Smallville season 11 that I real enjoy. 


My Rating: Enjoyed the first two times can't wait for the third: 7.9/10

The Yugioh Franchise

Watching Yugioh Zexal cause I'm going to review it later I sat back and thought what happened to this great cartoon I used to love? After about a minute I figured out what happened Yugioh unlike it's audience it don't grew up yet became more childish as the series continued. For those who think Yugioh was childish from get go watch the subbed version they dealt with death in a "nice way" plus in subbed version Jaden isn't so clean cut and he had a dirty mouth along with having far more serious moments without him ever going as brain dead as his dubbed counterpart. Beside all that needs to be done is make Yugioh series 1.5 and 2.5, the first will show the rise of pro dueling and how it became a sport. The series would work like this after Yugi defeats Atem he feels a piece of himself is missing and duels lose there meaning to him so he temporally quits putting his focus into his school work as he prepares to leave high school and enter collage. Seto Kaiba and Pegasus start yet another tournament to kill the boredom, which Yugi doesn't take part in, with each betting on a duelist Kaiba wins the bet and Pegasus leaves but before leaving says "we should do this again but maybe next with some more friends" that sparks the idea of pro dueling in Kaiba's head. With duel monsters losing it's audience this is what the game need to breath live into a dieing franchise. After Kaiba  pitches the idea to Pegasus along with other business associates they all setup tournaments to find sponsor candidates one company in particular goes to find Yugi Muto, after so corporate begging he becomes the sponsor of Go For IT Magazine. Then there's Joey who decided not to go to collage and instead works at a couple of dead end jobs after a while becoming Pegasus' sponsor simply because it's something he loves, knows how to do ,and it pays the bills. With this season no evil/bitter duelist trying to take over the world with paper cards just new characters that want to beat the King of Games Yugi Muto and make a name for themselves. Also a more realist Yugioh with Yugi not being so clean cut I mean this is a kid who grew up with only his grandfather and a game shop, in this Yugi would be tempted by fame and wealth. Plus I'd like to see a season with Pegasus training Joey because in the duelist world Joey is the third top rated duelist but compared to Yugi and Seto the difference seems like heaven and earth. Basically i what to see him rely less on luck and start playing with skill. The series would show fans why Joey's deck not his character should be rated as third. During the middle of season after seeing how well received pro dueling is Seto starts building Duel Academy. Then for Yugioh 2.5 we would simply revisit the GX students as they try to leave their marks on the world of dueling. Mostly this will give fans the chance to see how the GX kids compare to the pros of Yugioh. Basically both series would focus on two sets of characters that I feel haven been completely fleshed out, both would focus on a simple yet engaging story with character development being the major selling point. This of course wouldn't have to stop the cards selling because most cards aren't seen in the show anyway, plus new characters that also get fleshed out making the audience care for them, the new character could show off the newer cards that don't use XYZ or Synchro monsters for the sake of continuity.

Why I can't take Wonder Woman seriuosly

With a possible Wonder Woman movie coming out in twenty something I think that fans need to shut up so we can give this woman some pants already. I understand that the fans have fallen in love with her bikini babe outfit but honestly as a guy i feel the uniform is extremely sexist. Diana is suppose to be an Amazon warrior Princess but to me she looks more like a pinup girl she has no real muscles in most comics and cartoons I've seen her in. Plus if i was a criminal every time I'd see her I'd most likely try to pick her up rather then think oh shit it's Wonder Woman i should run. I think they should go with the Injustice: Gods Among Us look wear she not only has pants but she also has She-Hulk level muscle wear it's sexy and threaten yet not to the point you might mistake her for a man. Now weapons she needs to carry the short sword and shield cause for an Amazon Princess that was trained in older forms of combat she comes to the USA and never displays any of her training except punching people/stuff really hard. Cause I feel they focus too much on the fact that she is a beautiful woman half and less the fact that she's a bad-ass. Honestly how many guys see Wonder Woman and think now that's an empowered woman cause at first glance all i think is I can fap to that. Lastly either how she gets the name Wonder Woman cause it not like she has a secret identity or just call her Diana and drop it completely.                                                                                                                                                                                                       

Megamind Review Spoiler

The movie is like watching a failed NASA launch it starts out great but then crashes and burns. The movie is nothing more then a bad Superman parody. It begins with both Megamind's and Metro Man's planets exploding but before Megamind is sent off his father says something that gets cut off and that's never exampled. Megamind is raised by criminals and Metro Man is raised by a rich family yet they go to the same school? To add insult to injury none of the prison guards ever try to contact the government or Child Protective Services about the blue alien that landed in their jail instead the just sent him off to school everyday. After being picked on by Metro Man and his classmate who basically have judged him when all he was trying to do was fit in he tells himself "if I can't be good at being good I'll be good at being bad". When he does that closed mouth evil smile as a kid that's about as evil as he gets, time pass and with some odd luck Megamind kills Metro Man which i had no emotion reaction because Metro Man from get go was an ass. With Metro Man defeated Megamind is free to rule over the city which would be threaten if how he destroyed the city wasn't so childish. The rest of the movie is Megamind gets bored and creates Titan another hero for him to fight who turns evil now Megamind must use his past evil inventions to save the day. The story was predictable and it's not a villain movie it's a redemption movie for kids. The character were just poorly crafted staring with Metro Man who's an ass hat throughout the movie but, there's a point when he's talking about why he faked his death that I actually felt for him until he said that he now he'll be Music Man just so he can keep the M symbol. Then there's Roxanne Ritchie who takes all the female empowerment of Lois Lane and never shows any of it the only reason she's in the movie was so that Megamind had a romantic relationship and it's so forced. Hal Stewart/Titan is the creepy "friend" of Roxanne who's creepy level is over 9000 plus the only reason he become evil is because Roxanne won't date him WTF man! Megamind I feel for but because his not really a villain but a product of his environment, upbringing and abuse at the hands of Metro Man as a child. The scene when he snaps and becomes "evil" really is him just losing the battle against Stockholm Syndrome. Last thing that makes Megamind an odd character is the fact that the movie really focuses on the man-love Megamind has for Metro Man. The jokes/running gags are flat out terrible and they get worst as they're told again and again. The movie realize too much on the star power of it rather than good writing and truly funny jokes.

My Rating: Didn't live up to anything that was said about it: 3/10

Transformers Prime Darkness Rising Review

I liked it more than I thought i would. The story is the same old setup Autobots stuck on Earth and Decepticons trying to kill them for energon. What I liked about the first five episodes is that the directors of the show didn't try to cramp the plot into one episode instead building up the characters and their respective relationships. Also the show uses the three children Miko Nakadai, Jack Darby, and Rafael "Raf" Esquivel to ask questions such as why are the Autobots on Earth and why they can't go home? This provides the audience with details needed to understand why the Autobots do what they do lastly, it gives an emotion moment when they destroy their only way home trapping them on Earth. The bad side of the story is that it's nothing new form previous cartoon of the same name. The Autobots are still stuck on Earth and out gunned by the Decepticons. Somehow three kid get entangled which the Autobots even though nobody else has seen them, for the most part the plot was predictable. Even with a predictable plot the saving grace was the character relationships first is Optimus Prime and Ratchet old war buddies that have a pretty simple relationship which was shown best through the actions they take instead of the words they share. Their relationship works well for what is, Ratchet is an old bot set in his ways who sees human as nothing more then a problem. On the other hand we have Optimus who can't afford to be stubborn having to think about the safety of humans and Autobots alike. Having Ratchet someone who is most like to shot first ask question never as his second in command keeps Optimus honest. Like I said their best scenes is when they don't need to talk their body language says everything. Miko and Bulkhead have a great relationship simply because he's a ten ton war machine but yet she runs him and makes in look easy without ever making him look spineless. Bumble Bee and Rafael's relationship works well because Raf forms an instant connect with Bumble Bee, plus he's the only human that can understand Bumble Bee. Final reason is during the plot it is shown that Bumble Bee is the kid of the Autobots and now finally he has someone to play with that won't look down on him cause he wants to chill and play some video games. Last but not least is Jack and Arcee my favorite team up both characters are going though a serious change in life so you get to see how their leaning on one another just to get though. Plus the voice actors really make the characters come to life by bringing their A game and showing emotion depth. Jack hates his life most likely has some father issues with a single mom at home, form the beginning the show shows that Jack wants to be normal he wants to be having fun rather then having to work now comes the craziness of the Autobots to make his life even more complex. Arcee has just lost a partner with the death of Cliffjumper she's anger, pissed and now has to play babysitter a human that she views as an pain in the ass. After sometime Arcee starts to warm up to Jack to the point that she likes having Jack around on the flip side Jack can't handled being shot at hoping to be saved by her every time his in harms way. Arcee asks Jack not to quit and he comes back with iffy feelings still, which completely changes when he sees that she was nearly killed on a mission. Basically showing that if his not going to stay for himself he'll at least stay for her sake. All in all the plot episodes really have me looking forward to the episodes to come.

My rating: I wasn't bored and looking forward to watching more Transformers Prime: 7.4/10

With live-action comic books movie on the rise why aren't we anime or cartoons stepping up by being more serious and eduction? Examples: TMNT 2004 and The School Bus
